Wichita Is about to Be “All Shook Up”

0

Put on your blue suede shoes and limber up those hips because Wichita’s Crown Theater is going to be “All Shook Up” between February 12 and April 4. Part of the theater’s 2009-2010 season includes a musical that will seem like it’s straight from the jukebox complete with many of the hits by “The King” himself – Elvis Presley. But this isn’t just any Elvis Presley musical. “All Shook Up” is based on “Twelfth Night.”

Yes, you guessed it – that’s Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night.” The story takes place in 195 in a small town in the Midwest. One girl has a dream of leaving the one-horse town and her knight in shining armor happens to be a hunk that rides through town on a motorcycle and shakes his hips around provocatively while he makes his stops on the way through. With the help of this rebel, she and the community discovers the beauty and power of rock and roll music. It sounds a bit like Footloose with an edge.

If you are a fan of Elvis, you will undoubtedly appreciate “All Shook Up.” Songs featured in this musical include Heartbreak Hotel, Jailhouse Rock, Burning Love, Can’t Help Falling in Love With You and several others you will recognize from your youth or from listening to the oldies station in your classic Ford vehicles while your parents (or grandparents) attempt to relive their glory days.

The musical is being performed through April 4 on Thursday and Sunday evenings. There are also three Thursday matinee performances on February 25, March 4 and March 25. Be sure to get your tickets today by calling (316)681-1566. Don’t be cruel by missing your chance to see this unique and riveting musical. You may never think of Elvis the same way again! Viva Wichita!
